SlowBurn Studio
Small studio, big galaxy, community at the centre.
Small studio. Big galaxy. Community at the centre.
SlowBurn Studio is a solo operation born in the OMENX community. I was a player first โ then built Cosmic Sloths for the community, and the game grew into a whole cosmic universe of sloths, pilots and hungry nebulae. SlowBurn is where that universe lives now: small studio, big galaxy, community at the centre. More games in the same stars are already on the way.
The name is the promise: a slow burn. I'd rather ship something small that's alive and keep feeding it for years than launch something huge that's dead on arrival. Cosmic Sloths has been open for three months and is already deep into Season 7 โ they run in four-week cycles, and it gets patched in front of the same players every week. Cosmic Ember is being built the same way, just with a lot more fire in it.
Six rules I actually keep
Not a mission statement โ just what shipping to the same players every single week has taught me, written down.
Community at the centre
I was a player in the OMENX community before I was a developer in it, and Cosmic Sloths was built for the people I was playing alongside. The Discord isn't a support queue โ it's the design room. Most of what's good in the game started as somebody's complaint.
The game bends around your session
A Cosmic Sloths run is 3โ12 minutes and every one of them moves you forward. Cosmic Ember is the opposite โ a colony you grow over hours, which is exactly why the world stops dead the moment you need to think. Different clocks, same rule: the game fits your evening, not the other way round.
The browser is the console
Every game here runs in a tab, on desktop and mobile, with nothing to download. Distribution shouldn't be a wall between a player and a good idea.
Skill is the ladder
Scores are server-validated, leaderboards are earned, and nothing you can buy will out-rank a player who's simply better than you.
The world should remember what you did
The newer work is built on a hard rule: if it's in the fiction, it's in the mechanics โ and if you built something, the world has to show it.
Ship, watch, patch
Builds go in front of players early and what hurts gets fixed in hours, not quarters. Being one person is the whole advantage โ there's nobody to ask for permission.
Where this all started
Built in partnership with the Omen Foundation, whose ecosystem provides identity, NFT and payment rails for Cosmic Sloths and the broader OmenX gaming initiative. The Omen community Discord is still where most Cosmic Sloths players live — the SlowBurn Discord is the studio's own room, and where the next games get argued about first.
The details of that partnership โ identity, NFTs, the $OMENX economy and how it does (and doesn't) touch gameplay โ are documented in full on the Cosmic Sloths whitepaper.
